farmhouse extension

EXTENSION AND INTERIOR REMODELLING - STAPLEHURST, KENT

Studio four point ten are appointed to carry out extension and interior remodelling works to this farmhouse property in Staplehurst, Kent. We were appointed at the concept design stage and are now managing the construction work onsite.

The extension has been designed to create a new kitchen and dining space with views out to the garden and adjacent fields. The interior heart of the house has been reconfigured to help the spaces flow better, whilst ensuring high levels of natural light.

The exterior of the build will incorporate soldier course brick detailing in the plinth as well as a high level banding in reference to the traditional detailing of the original house. The shallow hipped roof is clad with red / brown standing seam zinc that compliments the colouring of the host building. The roof terminates with a rooflight that drops natural light into the entrance area of the new space.

Construction is currently underway with Studio Four Point Ten taking on the lead project management role to help deliver this high quality project. The project was handed over to the client December 2024, with exterior landscaping around the extension due to start when the temperature rises.

“The proposal achieves a healthy balance between old and new, with the juxtaposition reinforcing the existing character and is in my view an example of good design.”
